Change in marital status
Change in marital status
If you work for Schroders and your marital status changes you’ll need to update your personal details in Oracle. If you no longer work for Schroders you’ll need to let Aptia know directly.
When divorcing a spouse or dissolving a civil partnership, you’ll need to make decisions about sharing and dividing your assets, including your pension. If you separate without legally divorcing, or dissolving your civil partnership, neither of you will have formal access to each other’s pension. You may still be entitled to a pension lump sum if either of you dies.
If you’re separating legally you may come to an agreement over the division of assets without going to court, but any arrangement you make won’t be legally binding. If you’d prefer to protect the division of assets with a court order you have a number of options to consider:
Pensions offsetting - the value of any pension is offset against other assets. For example, one person might get a larger share of a property in return for the other retaining their pension
Pensions sharing - your full pension, or a portion of it, is transferred to your partner. It could be transferred into their name, or the funds could be transferred to another pension provider
Pension order - an order issued by a court that directs you to pay a portion of your income to your ex-partner when you retire

Remember, you must notify Aptia if your marital status changes and they can also help with questions around the pension process to follow if you’re going through a legal separation.
